Present simple vs present continuous (Modules 1–2 recycle)

Grammar Bank: Present simple vs present continuous (Modules 1–2 recycle)Jumps straight to this rule — full explanation, examples & practice
Quick rule

Present simple = routines and facts. Present continuous = now, or a fixed plan.

How it works
  1. 1Modules 1–2 introduced the present simple (routines, facts, likes) and the present continuous (actions happening now, or arranged future plans).
  2. 2A2 Key rewards learners who choose the right form quickly, so this lab rebuilds the speed of that choice, not new grammar.
Examples
  • I usually walk to work. (routine — present simple)

  • I'm meeting a friend this afternoon. (fixed plan — present continuous)

  • She works in a shop. (fact — present simple)

  • Look! It's raining. (now — present continuous)

  • We often watch films at the weekend. (routine — present simple)

Challenge 1.She ___ in a small office near the station.

Challenge 2.Look — it ___ outside!

Challenge 3.I ___ my grandmother every Sunday.

Challenge 4.We ___ to the cinema tonight — we already have tickets.

Challenge 5.He usually ___ breakfast at 8am.

Answer all items, then check.

Reading Part 3 — Why revision lessons help

Read along — listen to the text

Tap play to listen. Replay as many times as you need.

Some students think learning a language is like filling a box: once a topic is in the box, it stays there. But that isn't how memory works. Studies show that meeting the same words and skills again, a few weeks later, helps you remember them much better than only meeting them once.

That's why we have Review Labs. A Review Lab is not a test — it's a chance to use old language again, a little faster and a little more confidently than before. If today feels harder than your first lesson, that's normal. It means your brain is working to remember, which is exactly how learning happens.

Challenge 1.What is the main idea of the text?

Challenge 2.What is a Review Lab, according to the text?

Challenge 3.If a Review Lab feels hard, what does that mean?

Answer all items, then check.

Q1.The text compares memory to a box you fill once.

Q2.Meeting language again later helps memory.

It was a normal Saturday morning. I got up at eight and made breakfast. Then my phone rang — it was my best friend. She said she had two free tickets for a concert that evening. I was so happy, because I love live music! We got ready quickly and had a great night together.
