My year of growing vegetables — by Ella

Last spring, I decided to grow my own vegetables in the small garden behind my flat. I had never grown anything before, so at first I made a lot of mistakes — I watered my tomatoes far too much!

My neighbour Frank has grown vegetables for thirty years, and he gave me some great advice. He told me to plant carrots and beans first because they are easy for beginners. He was right — my carrots grew really well.

Now, after one year, I grow enough vegetables for my whole family every summer. My favourite part isn't even eating them — it's spending time outside every evening, checking on my plants. I'm already planning next year's garden.

13Why did Ella make mistakes at first?

14What mistake did Ella make with her tomatoes?
